As we are rapidly approaching START Summit 2023 (23.-24. March), we want to show you why you can not miss this event. START Summit 2022 had the most relevant, exclusive and intriguing stage sessions in the history of START. Below, we highlighted the 5 sessions you absolutely have to rewatch.
1. One of the highlights of last year’s START Summit 2022 was the fireside chat between Jaroslaw Kutylowski, the CEO and founder of deepL, and Florian Schweitzer, a co-founder of START Global and the European venture capital firm btov. The fireside chat was a great way to get fascinating insides about deepL and their goal of becoming the best machine translation company in the world. Jaroslaw revealed deepL’s accomplishments, the challenges they have encountered and their future goals. If you missed the session, don’t worry! The fireside chat video is linked below for those who are curious and want to learn more about deepL.
2. The discussion about Europe’s quick-growing startup scene was a fascinating panel. Katie Roof, a Bloomsberg News reporter, moderated it. The three experts that made up the panel were Julian Teicke (CEO and founder of wefox), Luciana Lixandru (Partner at Sequoia) and Christian Miele (Partner at Headline VC and the head of the German Startup Association). Luciana pointed out the significance of having strong leaders and role models, which were lacking in Europe for a long time. She emphasized how important role models are for motivating aspiring young entrepreneurs. The panelists discussed what needs to be done for the continued growth of strong leaders. They also talked about the difficulties and opportunities of the European startup ecosystem. Anyone wishing to comprehend the dynamic startup scene in Europe will find the panelists’ insights to be of great value and should definitely (re-)watch it!
3. Neil Rimer (Co-founder of Index Ventures) has been named the top venture capitalist in Europe (Forbes) and one of the top venture capitalists worldwide (New York Times). At START Summit 2022 Katie Roof had a chat with Neil Rimer about how to identify bold founders in these unprecedented times. Neil is the best speaker to ask about this topic, as he had a significant impact on the tech ecosystem in Europe and was an investor and founder. He invested for example, in Roblox, Supercell, Revolut, Slack, and Discord. If you are interested in what it takes to become a bold founder, click the link below to listen to this excellent talk.
4. Christian Angermayer gave the final speech of START Summit 2022. He presented his prospect of the world in 2042. This was the main topic of last year’s Summit. After graduating from college, Christian cofounded his first biotech company and became very successful. He is currently the head of Apeiron Investment Group, a family office and private investment company with $3 billion in assets under their management. Christian’s talk included several interesting topics, one of which was his personal experience with psychedelics and their effect on mental health. 5. The highlight of START Summit was the grand final of our Pitching Competition, START Summiteer. Four startups competed in the final round; each had something unique to offer. The first startup Equalicert created a product called Equal Time. It is a simple way to track attendance and participation in Zoom. The aim is to give everyone fair and equal speaking times. Exnaton, the next startup, seeks to use peer-to-peer energy communities to distribute sustainable energy production more efficiently. Witty.works created a digital writing assistant that improves the use of inclusive language. The last startup, Nerit’e, aims to transform smart fertilizing by making it sustainable, high-quality, actionable, and cost-effective. Exnaton ultimately dominated and won the pitching competition. They received 10,000 CHF, a Breitling watch and a 6-month angel investor mentorship. It was a fierce competition and a very close decision in the end.
